Using the VLSI CAD LAB is not a right but a priviledge.

How to Solve a Problem

Report the problem through the Web. VLSI LAB admins are making their best effort to serve you. Without exception, all the problem requiring administrative help should be reported through Web for proper loging and follow up. Phone or personal conversations will not help you towards solving your problem. You can only rely on the Report a Problem form and loging system. 

How to use LAB space

  1. It is strictly forbidden to smoke within the LAB.
  2. It is strictly forbidden to drink or eat around the terminal area.
  3. Every Lab member is responsible for the cleanliness of the LAB.
  4. The windows should not kept open due to the dust problem.

How to Use Computer Resource

  1. Locking a Terminal is not permitted. If you do not work, you should log off from the terminal. If a terminal left locked, the LAB admins will unlock it and log off without saving anything.
  2. Any action to create a vulnerability to the VLSI CAD LAB computer network is strictly forbidden. Abuser will forfeit all LAB usage priviledge.
  3. Any illegal usage of the VLSI CAD LAB computer network (Example: MP3 download, etc...) is strictly forbidden.
  4. It is strictly forbidden to alter/remove the available computer infrastructure (terminal locations, keyboard, mouse, etc...).
  5. It is not forbiden to surf within the internet but this LAB is not an Internet Cafe either.
  6. LAB HDDs cannot be used for personal storage space. Do not store any file that is not related with the function of VLSI CAD LAB.
  7. The design activity related to a MSc. Thesis projects, a PhD.Thesis Project and a General Research Project within the LAB are categorized as PROJECT. All other design activity, ex. Home work, personal/curiosity work, BSc. Thesis project ..., are categorized as WORK.
  8. Each PROJECT has a home directory within "/PROJ" directory. Keep all the material related to the PROJECT ( i.e. Cadence Database, Waveform figures, PDF documents, ocean print outs, etc...) within the assigned project home directory. You will find appropriate directory structure within the home directory to store any material. Project Home directory will be available while the PROJECT is active. Once the PROJECT finished, the material will be backed up and the PROJECT home directory will be removed.
  9. The design activity related to the WORK project should be conducted within the home directory of the Technology Related Generic Project (Ex. ams035sige). Keep all the material related to the WORK ( i.e. Cadence Database, Waveform figures, PDF documents, ocean print outs, etc...) within the home directory of the Generic Project. You can create appropiate directory structure within the Generic Project home directory. Check the Project Directory Structure Information. Each user has a 100MB of WORK Project storage space. If you exceed this limit you will be blocked.
  10. You can use remote access to the LAB only if you work for a PROJECT with an appropriate VNC number.
  11. You have to use available terminals within the LAB space if you do not work for a PROJECT.

Abuse of any of these rules will result

  1. First offense, 3 days account blockage
  2. Second offense, 1 week account blockage
  3. Third offense, we will forfeit any LAB usage priviledge.
